![]() If you’re not willing to put in the hard work and exhibit integrity at all times, why should your employees?Įffective leaders are the trailblazers of their team: They’re out front clearing the way for the rest of the party to follow their example. The best way to promote integrity at work is to lead by example. How To Improve Integrity In The Workplace However it manifests, an ethical approach to decision-making can do a lot for your business. This can manifest in the way you create and develop new products, make moves to protect stakeholders, and develop policies to better serve your customers. With integrity as the foundation of your team’s behavior, you can then work to encourage an ethical approach to the rest of your business dealings - including the way you make decisions. Encourages An Ethical Approach To Decision-Making It all starts with building and maintaining integrity in your business. When your managers operate with a strong sense of ethics, your employees will, too. This, in turn, trickles down to the team members under those managers and gives them a role model to follow. Promotes Better LeadersĪnother reason why integrity in the workplace is so important is that it promotes better leaders. When your employees are comfortable at work, it is much easier for them to stay positive and upbeat even when things get difficult. Similarly, a culture of integrity in the workplace results in a more positive workforce. When your company operates with integrity and strong values at all times, your employees will feel more open - open to sharing ideas, connecting with their team, and being themselves. This, in turn, promotes strong, resilient employees because they can rely on certain principles that influence everything from how they treat their coworkers to how they answer customer questions. One of the main results of exhibiting integrity in your workplace is that your team has a set of guidelines - a standard operating procedure, if you will - under which they operate at all times. Without trust in your business, team members, customers, and clients will gradually trickle away, leaving you short-staffed, always looking for new team members, or in jeopardy of closing down completely. Builds And Maintains TrustĮxhibiting integrity in the workplace is key to building and maintaining trust among your employees and with your customers and clients. Here are five ways integrity can affect your team for the better. More than that, integrity plays a significant role in making your business the best it can possibly be. At its most basic, then, integrity is based on values - both yours and those of others - rather than personal gain. Thus, integrity is doing the right thing through your words, actions, and beliefs when no one is watching. Ask 10 people to define integrity in the workplace, and you’ll likely get 10 different answers - most of which revolve around the quality as a whole (such as honesty, sound judgment, dependability, or loyalty).Īnd while those specific expressions are a big part of what makes up integrity in the workplace, they combine to form a principle of behavior that goes well beyond the sum of the parts. ![]() With a snip of the stem, the peach starts rolling away, and the great adventure begins! Lifting weights in middle age and beyond can really amp up your health and fitness: You'll combat age-related muscle loss, reduce your risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, fend off chronic disease and improve your overall quality of life. Not only can older adults lift weights, they should lift weights to maintain their health and fend off degenerative conditions like osteoporosis. Lifting weights is a great way for older adults to get in shape and fend off disease. Read more: Workouts for people who really hate working out Can older adults lift weights? You can get your HIIT fix with a workout subscription app, a free YouTube channel or even from your favorite trainers on Instagram. ![]() High-intensity interval training is one ( extremely effective) way to do so. But if dumbbells and barbells just aren't your jam, you can certainly get fit with bodyweight workouts. Sure thing! Lifting weights is a fantastic way to build muscle mass, get stronger and become healthier overall. You can get fit with other forms of exercise, such as running and hiking, but lifting weights can help speed up the process. Goals with both endurance and strength components - like running an obstacle course race - require both types of training. Catching a theme? The answer to "how many reps should I lift?" coincides with your answer to " Is it better to lift light or heavy weights?" because of one simple reason - if you're lifting light weights, you should be doing more reps.Įndurance-based goals like improving your running capacity require more reps at lower weights, while strength-based goals like maxing out your deadlift require fewer reps at higher weights. Oh look, another question the answer to which depends on your goals. The number of reps you do depends on what type of exercise you're doing, and whether you want to increase strength or endurance. How many reps should you do when lifting weights? If you don't have a specific goal in mind, you can benefit from lifting both heavy and light weights. If I wanted to run a marathon, I would lift light weight for a lot of reps to get my heart rate up and train my legs to handle stress for longer periods of time. For example, if I wanted to compete in a powerlifting competition, where the barbell back squat is one of the main events, I would lift heavy most of the time. One really isn't better than the other unless you're aiming for a very specific goal. ![]() It's beneficial to lift both light and heavy weights. Read more: Double the benefits of exercise by exercising outside Is it better to lift light weights or heavy weights? You don't have to do both at every gym session. In reality, the question of " Weights or cardio first?" requires individualized answers, but you can't go wrong with a balanced approach that includes both weights and cardio throughout the week. Do cardio first if your primary goal is to build speed or endurance. In simplest terms, lift weights first if your primary goal is to build muscle or get stronger. Your goals dictate whether you should hit the weights or hop on the treadmill first. Read more: How to calculate and track your macros Should you lift weights or do cardio first? Just know that lifting weights isn't a magic ticket to weight loss: You must sustain a calorie deficit over time, so if you're lifting every day but still eating more calories than you burn, you won't see the progress you want. It's not an incredibly significant difference, despite long-standing myths, but it does help. This results in a greater resting metabolic rate (your metabolism when you're just sitting or sleeping) and more calories burned each day. Muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat tissue, so over time, as you build more muscle, your body will burn more calories at rest than it did before you built that muscle. Lifting weights has a unique weight loss advantage that makes it superior to other forms of exercise for weight loss: When you lift weights, you build muscle and lose fat. Any form of exercise can help you lose weight, weightlifting included - as long as you burn more calories than you consume each day, you'll remain in a calorie deficit and lose weight. ![]() Both steps are required because Adobe Premiere Pro ignores the ICC profile. These tools are used to measure the colors and brightness of your monitor so that a calibration profile can be generated. This approach still requires you to own a monitor calibration device. I do not recommend this approach for broadcast or movie color grading, but it’s a great workaround for content delivered online. ![]() These consumer-level monitors are still really accurate and can work for many editors. It’s based on using consumer-based monitors I recommended here, that are able to display wide gamut color ranges. This budget-friendly approach is focused on how to calibrate your monitor to be as accurate as possible without investing that much cash. Tools Required for the Low-Budget Approach (Software Based) ![]() Premiere Pro is also not color-managed so it ignores any calibrations you have applied to Windows or Mac OS. For instance, web browsers are usually not color-managed so even if you have a calibrated monitor, Chrome won’t display adjusted colors. Your graphics card could be manipulating colors, your operating system could be applying calibrations in some programs, but not all. Why is this so important? Because software-based calibration is not reliable. These setups also use dedicated SDI outs on a computer that bypasses your computer's operating system (OS). Professional color grading monitors either include the ability to load correction LUTS into the monitor via a SD card or USB stick or they use a second piece of hardware called a LUT box. I say most likely because you never know if someone has their TV set to max saturation and max contrast. On my monitor, this can cause my edits to take on a red shift making everything look warmer than it actually is.īrightness almost always is set too high when using default settings.Ĭalibration gives you confidence that what looks good on your monitor will most likely look good on others. Your monitor may display a wider gamut of colors than your final delivery format requires which will display your colors incorrectly. Calibration tools can take light readings from your room’s ambient lighting. Your ambient lights could cast an off-white hue on your screen that you don’t notice, but ultimately affects your color grade. The ambient lighting in your workspace can affect how your eyes perceive color. Here are a few additional reasons why calibration is so critical: Even if the brand's marketing states it is factory calibrated, it still needs calibration once unboxed and repeatedly as you use it every few weeks. Why do you need correction LUTs? Any monitor you buy is not going to be calibrated correctly for your environment or use. You need a monitor with a high color accuracy that can also load correction lookup tables (LUTs)or you need a LUT box + a highly accurate monitor. This article is a continuation of that article and it specifically focuses on how to calibrate a monitor for video editing.Ī professional color grading setup can easily cost $5k in hardware. These new features are powering functionality like loudness leveling (to normalize playback volume), smart transitions (to compute the optimal overlap times between tracks), soundprints (to represent tracks visually), waveform seeking (to present a graphical view of tracks), Library stations, and artist radio. Additionally, Plexamp makes use of a few up-and-coming features that will be included in Plex's subscription, Plex Pass, in the future. The word LOVE, after all, only has five letters, and works well to sigilize in this fashion. It’s not very specific, but it’s positive, and using it in this fashion will be a great demonstration of this technique. Were I doing this for a specific, actual situation and not as an example, I might spend a long time deciding on the correct choice of word or words to sum up the goal of the sigil, but for the purposes of this example, we’ll just use the word LOVEitself as our statement of intent. Like with most sigils, you begin by summing up your intent. We could, in theory, just use the glyph, hexagram, or other symbol of Venus for this, but suppose your friend (who has bad luck in love, and needs help with it) wants a custom sigil specifically. Venus is associated with other matters, too, such as creativity, fertility, and art, though, so we want to be specific. Venus is an ideal celestial sphere to work with for this purpose, as most people know, given that Venus is not only named for a goddess of love, but also associated with love in astrology. Suppose you’re a witch and would like to create a sigil using it to help a friend find love, or to bring love of some sort into your own life, strengthen an existing relationship, or just invoke the concept of love for some reason in general. Lets just here, as an example, focus on the grid for Venus, which is shown below. It’s pretty far beyond the scope of this article to include all the grids, but resources for them can be found in various places online, including this site. Here, though, I’ll describe what’s (mostly) the traditional method for making a simple sigil using a planetary grid. Of note, many technowitches will use keypads and keyboards as grids in making sigils. While not all sigils with those features are planetary, they do employ a similar technique to those using the planetary grids, usually a grid setup of some sort. ![]() You’ve probably seen sigils made in this fashion before - the circle at the beginning and perpendicular line at the end make them rather recognizable. A line is then drawn between the numbers in their order within the statement, beginning with a circle to denote a start point, and ending with a perpendicular line across the main one. A statement of some sort of magical intent is translated into numbers, and then the numbers are plotted on the grid. This method, popularized by Agrippa, uses a series of number grids associated with each planet. A lot of us have different methods for making sigils, and there’s really no wrong way to do it (provided it works for you), but there do exist some traditional sigilization methods, among which we find the idea of using planetary squares. I personally just define them as any (usually) two-dimensional symbol communicating magical intent, and I’ve talked about my process for making and charging them here. There is much consternation and perhaps even a bit of debate, though, over what constitutes a sigil and how to use them properly. They are perfect for witches and magicians living in today’s dynamic world. Sigils are very, very popular on Tumblr and the Internet lately. |
